Immacolata Parish Council By-Laws

Purpose and Mission

  1. Provide vital consultation and advice to the Pastor

  2. Represent the various views of parishoners

  3. Serve as a communication network for the parish

  4. Promote collaborative leadership, lay ministry, and stewardship

The mission of the parish council is to unify all parish activities and parishioners, with the Pastor and the Archbishop, in the main mission of the Catholic Church: to bring people to Christ.

  1. The PARISH COUNCIL meets twice a year (October, February).

  2. Membership includes:

    • Chairperson of each major parish organization

    • Pastor

    • 9 at-large parishoners

    • Finance Committee chairperson

    • School Principal

  3. The PARISH COUNCIL deals with major topics that affect the vision, direction, priorities, and policies of the entire parish.

    • Organizations to be represented include:

    • School Board

    • Parish School of Religion (PSR)

    • Ladies Society

    • Immacolata Athletic Association

    • St. Vincent de Paul Society

    • Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)

    • Christ Renews His Parish (CHRP)

    • Parish School Outreach

    • Respect Life Committee

  4. The STEERING COMMITTEE

    • Members include 9 at-large parish representatives

    • Meets 5 times a year (August, September, November, January, April).

    • Three-year terms, with three members leaving each year.

    • Handles "action items,"

      • e.g., implements directives from the PARISH COUNCIL and Pastor, deals with tasks and issues of a practical nature, facilitates involvement between the parish and the Archdiocese.

  5. President

    • Has served on the Steering Committee a minimum of one year

    • Has served one year "in preparation" for the office

    • Chosen by consensus at the September Steering Committee

    • Serves a two-year term
